SWTC Monthly Catch Up For June!
The latest from the Software Testing Clinic
July Monthly Update
It’s been a very busy time for myself and Dan with conference season in full swing and balancing work and personal life. However, that doesn’t mean our SWTC hosts haven’t been giving it their all! Brighton, Cambridge and Manchester are now in full swing and SWTC Glasgow is fast approaching the end of their first season. The meetups are going strong and it’s a testament to all the hosts how organised they are, delivering amazing sessions with their own unique experiences and style.
99 Second Introduction to Biases in Testing
In this video, Dan and Mark will introduce you to what biases are, why they’re relevant to testers, provide some examples and discuss the pitfalls you should be aware of.
SWTC Cambridge — Designing Tests
Cambridge held a great session focusing on Designing Tests. It was great to see everybody so engaged with the topic, and so much fun to be had with the board game exercise. Some of the resources mentioned and used can be found in this Club discussion.
Upcoming Sessions
- SWTC Brighton — Taking Testing Notes — 11th July 2018
- SWTC London — Identifying Risk — 12th July 2018
3 Things We Found Interesting This Month
Each month we will share a few post and articles, both new and old that have caused pause for thought.
- Onboarding new starters: Robs put together a really useful sample step by step guide that he uses to help new joiners be onboard into a company, from the perspective of the company. He’s broken it down into 3 areas: “before they join”, “day 1” and “weeks 1–4”. It’s a useful primer to think about what you need to do to help new people embed into a company.
- Finding the Specialist Tester: I really enjoy Jeff’s posts on testing, but this one on describing and finding a specialist tester is fantastic. I love how he talks about the broad skillsets that all testers require no matter their specialism, and I think testers of all levels of experience will get a lot out of it.
- Hindsight Lessons About Automation: I’m really enjoying not one, but a whole series, of posts from Victor Slavchev who is discussing the theory end of test automation rather than the tools. If you are involved or want to get involved in automation, then it’s worth checking out this series.
